TREKKING AT LAKE SAIF-UL-MALOOK

Saif-ul-Malook Lake is situated at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley, near Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. It is located at an altitude of 3,224 metres (10,578 feet) above sea level. Saif-ul-Malook is one of the largest lakes in Pakistan. It's an oval shaped lake spread about a mile. Its water is clear, slightly green with snow-capped peaks in the background. How to get there:

The lake is open to visitors from June to September, 10 kilometres from Naran Village. Saif-ul-Malook Lake is accessible by 4×4 vehicles via the Naran Valley. Jeeps are readily available in Naran Bazar. The travel takes about an hour, on a winding path, starting from Naran. The entire route fills with captivating elegance.

Trekking:

The lake can be reached by 14 kilometres of road from Naran via Mansehra/Balakot/Kaghan. The trek from Naran to the lake requires about 4 to 6 hours, only for those who are fit and have stamina, enough to hike up to 3,000 feet, 8 kilometres long trekking trail. A jeep can be hired from the bazaar and reached to the top in an hour. The water is clear and the clearness of the water is attributed to the many glaciers, all around the high basin that feeds the lake.

Weather:

In summer, visitors to Saif-ul-Malook Lake are waiting for a very good weather. The climate here is mild during the day, while the temperature drops to minus during the night. In winter, the lake stayed frozen due to heavy snowfall. It allows the trek difficult to enter, only trekkers can get to the lake because of the snowfall.

Fishing:

Lake Saif-ul-Malook is home to popular and delicious Trout fish. Angling is a common practise in the Valleys of Naran and Kaghan. Fishing in crystal clear waters of Saif-ul-Malook is a favourite pastime for many visitors, as the lake is full of brown and rainbow trout. Permits can be collected from the Department of Fisheries of Shinu or Naran. Bringing your own angling gear is a choice, since you can buy it from the Naran Bazar. Fishing nets and all sorts of explosives for fishing in rivers and lakes shall be forbidden. They are detrimental not only to the stable and sustainable production of trout fish, but also to other marine life.

Camping:

Camping in Saif-ul-Malook Lake, on a full moon-lit night, brings a sense of sitting in a fairyland. There are a few camping sites available and it is highly recommended that you enjoy camping there, since the beautiful scenery of Lake Saif-ul-Malook deserves to be enjoyed at night. There are small huts and shops near the lake, where food is available to visitors and trekkers are advised to take food and water, etc. with them.
